Wilo Stratos PICO plus: what the display and controls offer

A colour display is pleasant to use. On a heating pump, it becomes especially useful when you need a clear record of the settings. Wilo lists a graphical colour display with single-button operation for the Stratos PICO plus. Before buying, there is therefore a better question than simply “Does it have a display?”: which control mode does the system need, and which settings should be clearly documented for future reference?

Choose the control mode deliberately

The Stratos PICO plus versions described offer variable differential pressure, constant differential pressure and constant speed. They also feature Wilo-Dynamic Adapt plus, which automatically adjusts output to system demand without a specified setpoint. The product information lists this function as the factory setting.

The practical benefit is the choice between automatic adaptation and deliberately specified settings. The selected option should fit the heating system’s control strategy. Ask your contractor to record the operating mode and the reason for choosing it. That makes later comparisons easier if heat emitter behaviour changes or settings need checking.

Two specific products, the same selection questions

The versions listed by HKS Energy include:

Both are specified with a 1 1/2 inch connection on the pump housing. A matching connection is not enough to choose between them. Compare the required pump curve and installation dimensions against the documents for the complete product number. The model name alone cannot replace this identification.

A higher performance rating does not automatically make one version the better choice. What matters when ordering is which pump covers the planned duty point. Have the requirements determined first, then compare suitable models.

Putting useful functions in context

Listed functions include fault and warning displays, a key lock and a rotor-chamber venting routine. The description also includes a manual restart function for additional deblocking, alongside automatic deblocking. The rotor-chamber venting function should be documented as such; it does not imply that the entire heating system is vented.

For hydraulic balancing, the product information lists support through the Wilo Assistant app. If you want to use this, agree the procedure with the contractor doing the work. A supporting function is particularly useful when it is built into the planned commissioning process.

We recommend considering the Stratos PICO plus when its control modes are needed and operation via a colour display is wanted. To compare the two products, bring together the rating plate, installation dimensions and sizing data. Only then can the list of features lead to a suitable order.
